Rolling Stock

MLE Wagon by Stephen Williams

While driving past the Lithgow locomotive yards 1 day about 2 years ago some of the club members from Lithgow noticed 2 of these wagons parked close to the fence and so we thought we would have a closer look. I took my video camera and tape measure and decided that they would make an unusual model. With my measurements, a railway drawing and an old copy of Australian Model Railway Magazine I built 2 of these wagons in about 95 hours over 3 months. Mine were built to 1&1/8 to the foot scale making the 45 foot wagons come out to 50&5/8 inches long in model form.

NSWGR S Trucks by Stephen Williams

They are 3 of a set of 6 NSWGR S Trucks I built to 1 & 1/8" to the foot scale. 3 were for a customer and I made 3 for me. The bodies are made of aluminium castings, they have hardwood floors and the axle boxes have roller bearings, the wheels are iron and axles are in steel, detail parts in brass, steel and aluminium, they weigh about 10 kilos and took about 30 hrs each to build. I had to learn how to weld aluminium for this job. They are painted in Machinery Grey enamel paint with decal custom made in South Australia. They represent S trucks made towards the end of production.
